Scuba Certified in Gili Trawangan, Indonesia

This Sunday is 56 days on this trip of ours. And out of all of those 56 days I have never been more excited, happy, and proud of my traveling partner in crime and the guy I married almost 1 year ago, my PADI certified scuba diver husband, Gregory Gerber! He accomplished something that scares the living bejesus out of me, and he rocked it! I wish I was as fearless as he is when it comes to the sea (and bugs).

Greg got certified at Big Bubble on the small Island of Gili Trawangan off of Lombok, Indonesia. The whole crew at Big Bubble were amazing, smart, fun and most importantly kept GG safe since I wasn’t there to protect him from all the sharks, turtles, and Nemo’s they swam with. This picture was taken right after his dive instructor, Anders, officially certified him and he got a t-shirt to prove it (and a temporary cert card that doesn’t look quite as cool as the t-shirt)!

Now we are both excited for our next scuba location. Greg for the actual scuba-ing, and me for the lovely beaches that are usually close by! Any good diving locations you have on your travel wish list that we should add to ours?

The Weirdest Place In The Entire World Is In Singapore, And We Went There. OBVIOUSLY!

Haw Par Villa in Singapore

This title may seem over exagerated, but it isn’t. We seriously went to the weirdest place on this planet. It’s called Haw Par Villa and it’s in Singapore and it’s fricken weird. I stole this next part from Wikipedia, “The park contains over 1,000 statues and 150 giant dioramas depicting scenes from Chinese mythology, folklore, legends, history, and illustrations of various aspects of Confucianism.” But they forgot to mention how unbelieveably weird this place is.

We were the only people at this super weird “theme park” (actually, I wouldn’t consider this place a “theme park.” I think it’s more like a park that lives in someone’s weird ass dream). Like we seriously only saw maybe 2 other people and they were totally like, “this place is f’n weird!”

It started off somewhat normal, and when I say normal I mean normal for a weird place. Please notice the tiger at the top sticking his tounge out at us because apparently he knows what we’re about to get ourselves into.

Photo of the Week: Week 6 Ubud in Bali, Indonesia

A week behind on my photo of the week posts, but guess what that means….you get two this week! Lucky you!

I try to blame my PofW behindness on the lack of wifi, but that was only true once we left Ubud. The real reason is because we loved Ubud so much that we were rarely at our super-cheap-private-villa-with-a-pool because we loved wondering around in the rice fields and hanging with monkeys. In fact we love Ubud so much that we decided to extend our Indonesia trip after the Gili Islands so we could come back to Ubud to explore some more and get some work done.

Enough of my excuses, here is last week’s picture of the week, along with some nagging about people:

The 3 S’s of Boracay: Sand, Sea, and Sunsets

May 6th, 2013 · Philippines · By: Casi

We discovered Boracay, Philippines in a post on Quora and the second I saw the color of that water I knew we had to go. But while planning our RTW trip not much else in the Philippines popped up for us within the endless amount of travel information you can find online. Luckily, we met some new friends who told us about Cebu, Philippines, and then all of a sudden we were there visiting them which meant we were really close to Boracay and it was officially part of our Philippines plan.

We saw all the gorgeous pictures of the sea surrounding the 4 mile (7km) long island, but there is nothing like seeing it for yourself. Not only is the Sulu Sea the bluest I have ever seen, but the sunsets we’re the most outstanding, and the sand was the whitest. So today I have for you pictures of the 3 S’s of Boracay: Sand, Sea, and Sunsets. Enjoy!

Sand

The children in Boracay build these beyond intricate sand castles all over the island! Every beach and every restaurant had their own hurd of kids building something special.

Photo of the Week: Week 5 Singapore + Thoughts So Far

Singapore Views

You may have seen this picture before because I posted it on Instagram a few days ago. I try to share new photos every week in this Photo of the Week post, but this picture really stood out to me. Actually it stood out to my friend Katester first who sent me a message after I posted it saying “My favorite instagram yet….you both look super happy!” After making fun of her for being sappy, I took a second look at the picture and she’s right! We do look super happy in this picture…and we really are SUPER HAPPY.

We are on our 38th day of this trip and even though we have made mistakes (lots of them), gotten lost, ate food that made us sick, been ripped off (we call it the white tax), had some arguments (usually when I’m starving and need food RIGHT NOW), and a few other not so great moments, we couldn’t be any happier about our decision to do this trip. Every time we book a new flight to a new country I get so excited! It’s like the night before Disneyland every time. In fact, I’m writing this at Changi Airport in Singapore before our flight to Bali. TO BALI!!!! This is a place I’ve known about for a long time and it has always seemed so exotic and far away and a place I would only dream about visiting. But here we are, on our way to Bali. I think my smile is even bigger than it is in this week’s picture.

Dream big people!
