There is a trend I have noticed since living in San Francisco. People are really into their communities! I have been invited to a few local fundraiser parties, have enjoyed some street festivals that are filled with local businesses, seen more local markets than chain stores, and have listened to activists spreading the word on supporting the local communities.
Living in LA for most of my life, it was very rare to ever see such community oriented people. Not only does it help support your neighbor but it can help you as well. I’m an avid Trader Joes fan, spoiled from my life in Los Angeles, but I think I need to start supporting my community and myself by doing at least some of my shopping at local markets to help my neighbor and my health.
This post is a bit out of character for me, but San Francisco has really inspired me to just get out there and enjoy the things around me. I was inspired to write all of this from a friend’s blog where she left her city life for a month and experienced life on a farm. She learned some great things in her experience and I commend her for doing something that I really don’t know if I could do myself. Check out her post here and get to know your local community to better your neighbor and yourself!
