Golden Gate Park is filled with all sorts of surprises. Yesterday I hitched a ride with Otto to play some disk golf. I must be a total noob, because it seems I’m the last person on earth to hear about this. Go figure.
There is an 18 hole course nestled in the woods between JFK Dr. and Fulton between 30th and 23rd. If you didn’t see all the guys running around yelling FOREEE! you probably wouldn’t realize you were on the course at all.
The game is played exactly like golf except you launch frisbee’s, or disks at metal baskets. At each tee off zone there is a small diagram of the hole stapled to a tree stump showing you where the basket is and what par the hole is. The holes can be pretty hard to find with all the trees and bushes so make sure to check out the diagram before you let one fly.
I didn’t do that well in terms of score, but I wasn’t too bad for a noob. Luckily our dog Stella stole the show with her disk golf caddy backpack so no one was watching me. I definitely recommend giving this a try. Let me know how it goes.
